River Ring #4
River Ring #4
River stones, bronze
Ring size 6.5
NB: there is some oxidization on one of the stones in the this ring.
About:
This series of rings is a continuation of an ongoing collaboration between Taryn Kneteman and Alma Louise Visscher. Our collaborative practice is an inquiry into the living, shifting, and changeable nature of shared resources and collective making, both with each other and with the public. Our collaborative and individual practices intertwine as flexible systems of creation.
Exploring the possibilities of wearable sculptures in ring forms, the rings in this series take cues from infrastructure, monoliths, and land art, scaled down to be palm-sized. The unassuming stones are from riverside sites previously host to gold, then coal, then gravel extraction. They are gathered, polished, and cast in place in bronze. These sculptures adorn the present moment, hold memories, and question the process of collecting, extracting, and valuing materials.
Process:
Each ring is one-of-a-kind cast bronze, made through the lost wax process and stone in place method.
Caring for bronze jewellry:
Although this piece of jewelry has been polished and finished, bronze can develop a patina. To keep the metal shiny, polish with a jewelry cloth as needed and when not being worn keep in a jewelry box or in the cloth satchel that is shipped with.
